Purrfect Ways to Celebrate Cinco de Meow
May 5th is Cinco de Meow! You may be more familiar with Cinco de Mayo, which is a Mexican holiday celebrating the defeat of French forces in the Battle of Puebla. Our adorable feline friends have decided to get in on the festivities! A Valley Center, KS vet lists some cute ways to turn your kitty into a ‘purrito’ for this cute holiday below.
Fish Tacos
We know, you don’t need a reason to enjoy tacos, quesadillas, or other delicious Mexican dishes. However, if you do indulge, include your kitty in the festivities. Offer Fluffy some cooked, plain fish or chicken. This is a great treat for cats! Just hold the spices: seasonings aren’t good for cats.
Jumping Beans
We really can’t advise giving your kitty jumping beans: they are choking hazards, after all. However, you can make your frisky little pet some cute toy ones. If you like to sew, download a pattern, and make Fluffy a catnip toy out of it.
Catnip Toys
Speaking of catnip toys, jumping beans aren’t the only option. You can make catnip tacos, sombreros, or cactuses. Or, make Fluffy a pretty bed or hammock using fabrics that have Day of The Dead art patterns. You can find step-by-step instructions online.
Adoption Fiestas
Many shelters and rescues are also getting involved with Cinco de Meow, and are hosting themed adoption events. Some are even offering discounts. Help homeless kitties find loving forever homes by spreading the word about these events on social media. You never know: you might change a furball’s life with a few simple keystrokes! Of course, if you’re ready to adopt a new cat, this would be a purrfect time to do so.
Meowing About
One of Fluffy’s many adorable features is the way she speaks. Kitties all have their own unique vocalization styles. While some are more talkative than others, most of them really enjoy it when we speak to them. If your feline buddy is a little chatterbox, get a short video of her meowing at you.
Movie
Cats are great movie-watching buddies. As the day winds down, pick something that fits the theme. You can’t go wrong with Westerns! Anything that features a kitty is also a great pick.
